Stress and Insomnia

How to Relieve Stress and Insomnia

Stress is a major cause of insomnia. Let’s focus here on stress and insomnia, and how to relieve stress, and thus provide an insomnia cure or remedy to a problem that cripple many today. Stress is often the leading problem that causes insomnia whether the insomnia is acute or chronic.

To understand the relation of stress and insomnia, one must understand stress, mental illness and medical ailments to a degree. There are many reasons to name that causes stress, which in turns sets in insomnia.  Many people are suffering from panic attacks when insomnia exists and most of the times depression is underlying the problem. Learning how to relieve stress can helps us reduce insomnia.

Stress can occur from overwhelming bills, or from a death in the family, or when an individual set too high standards for himself or herself.  Stress and insomnia are a major problem with those having standards for themselves. If a person has set high standards for his or her self, the person must come to a degree of understanding that no one is perfect. Regardless of the tasks you achieve or fail to finish it is basic to recognize that imperfections often prevent us from achieving to a higher level than normal. If you completed a task to the best of your ability then you have accomplished something in your life and should reward your self accordingly. If you failed to complete a task you should ask your self what happen that made you lack the skills to complete the task and move forward rather than beating yourself down. Therefore, the step in learning how to relieve stress is to accept ourselves as we are and not over-expect too much from ourselves.

However, a handful will beat them self down, thus overloading the mind, leading to stress and insomnia. If you feel you are the target of rejection, remember that accepting ‘NO’ is a good thing in learning how to relieve stress. If someone tells you no they often have your best interest at heart. For example, maybe you want to go dancing with your friends and your parents tell you it is not a good idea, thus your parents are showing you care, rather than rejecting your idea. I am sorry to say but people do lose sleep over the simplest stressors, and allow the stressors to progress to anger, stress, misery and more. The mind in due course becomes exhausted of the downbeat thinking and resists sleep when it is time to take a break.

Stress and insomnia may take place when a death strikes a family. None of us have control over death, thus we should not overload ourselves with grief but accept the nature of mortality.  We must console ourselves that those who has passed on are resting peacefully and no longer suffer the pains of life. When my mother passed on I went through a depressive period filled anxiety, grief and extreme stress. I had to learn the hard way, but I realize eventually that there is nothing we can do about death, thus allowing stress to take control and insomnia affect our health is foolish, since it is helping no one.

When you make a mistake, learn from the error and move ahead. Some people will dwell on mistakes, beating themselves down to the point of stress and insomnia. No one is perfect and all of us will make mistakes throughout our lifetime, and some of those mistakes may be bigger than other mistakes. Hence, learning to let go is necessary to avoid depression, anxiety and insomnia.

An individual with excessive controlling mentality may experience insomnia, since the mind is consumed in controlling others. When you feel you must control everything around you, try to think about how you feel when you are controlled. It is necessary to realize that none of us has control all the time, but some of us have control some of the time.  A person’s attitude and mindset can induce stress and insomnia.

Mental ailments or disorders can also cause insomnia. When mental ailments or disorders are involved often medications and therapy is needed to help the person cope with insomnia and stress. Many people suffering mental illnesses find it not easy to deal with the simplest stressors and in consequence stress escalates until insomnia takes over.

We have looked at the various scenarios for stress and insomnia. By covering these various situations, we can learn what causes stress and avoid leading up to insomnia.
