Children and Insomnia

Children nowadays are suffering insomnia more so than in preceding years. At one time the world was filled with children that went to bed around nine or ten o' clock, but today children are staying up through all hours of the night and day. Naps are out of existence for many children nowadays since the world has progressed to a hasty lifestyle were even adults are affected immensely. At one time, a few hundred people maybe suffered insomnia, but today millions are enduring sleepless nights.

Children today are subjected to violence, pornography, illicit behaviors and so forth. Video games, violent and unrestricted television programs and illicit music are leading to nervous problems in children who in turn suffer insomnia. Each day a child endures ongoing thinking patterns, worrying about how they will get the new hits coming out since everyone else has the hit, or else worrying about how they will get the next video game. Worrying leads to stress, which in turn causes insomnia, thus the body and mind is not getting what it needs, therefore, the mind and body reacts negatively. Furthermore, children of old rarely suffered mental disorders, but today millions of children are suffer dangerous or mild disorders of the mind, which too causes insomnia to occur.

Changes in the environment are also causes insomnia, since chemicals and pollutions are surrounding our world. Children today are suffering Sinus problems, asthma and other symptoms that cause discomfort and affect the mind.

Today, many children are turning to alcohol, drugs, nicotine, caffeine and other harmful substances and chemicals to relieve their symptoms. Medical conditions and sleeping disorders are another area of problems that are affected millions of children daily and leading to insomnia. Thus, to solve the problem changes are needed, however, in a controlled environment we know this is not going to happen, therefore, medical, mental health, and exercise, diet, and techniques are needed to control insomnia.

If your child has acute insomnia, it is possible to help your child by encouraging exercise, diet and relaxation. Ask your child to take time out of his busy schedule to do nothing but relax. Allow the child to watch a GOOD movie without contents of violence, nudity or other harmful visuals that will affect the mind. Try to prepare healthy foods and encourage your child to eat three meals each day without eating too many sweets. If you child enjoys candy, try to substitute the desire with healthier treats, including fruits and vegetables.

Diet Plan: setting up a diet plan is essential to help your child grow and sleep properly.
Exercise should be encouraged. Maybe your child walks daily, but try to get your child to learn stretching exercises to help him or her learn to relax the body.

Cut back on entertainment and increase activities. If your child spends hours watching television, listening to music or playing video games this is only affecting the nerves, thus your child is not growing properly and insomnia most likely will continue in your child's life. Cutting back on the entertainment should start slowly. If you child spends 5 hours watching television cut back the hours to four and gradually work the hours down to one or two per day. Likewise, if you child spends hours on video games cut the time back slowly so that the child can adjust accordingly. Increase the activities by joining your child. Go for a walk in the park with your child. Visit a friend's house and take your child with you. Go to a movie together that does not last longer than an hour or so and then go out to dinner together. Spending time with your child will encourage your child to reduce bad habits and increase good habits.

Insomnia can lead to major health problems, thus encouraging your child now to adhere to good will help your child later. If you child is suffering chronic insomnia, then your child should be taking to a physician to weed out medical problems, and if this is not the problem, then mental health expertise may be needed.
